Our center educational philosophy centers around these ideals:
- All children are capable competent individuals with rights.
- Families are our children’s first teachers.
- Children learn through play.
- Learning happens through active participation not passive receipt.
- It takes a village to raise a child. Our community is an active part of the learning process for our children.
We practice Authentic Assessment of our children’s development using the anecdotal notes, quotes of what our children say, photographs and samples of our children’s work. We use the information collected to inform our teaching of the children.
Our curriculum is called an Emergent Curriculum. Our philosophy is inspired by the preschools in Reggio Emilia Italy. Creative Curriculum from Teaching Strategies is a form of Emergent Curriculum and we use the Teaching Strategies GOLD tool as our form of standardized assessment.
